Medical assistance and education

Taking care of student health in University residences is a service which we have been focusing on, ever since our management experience began many years ago. Living in a country like Italy where taking care of public health is by law a State responsibility, and a constantly discussed issue, and knowing that we are have students to stay for long periods (coming from abroad or from other places in Italy), who return home just a few times a year, we decided that we also had to provide medical assistance for our students. The student is not able to get in contact with his personal doctor and his parents cannot provide any fast help, and so we have created a service of “Medical assistance and education”, which is, up to now, present in the Rome and Milan residences.

Medical assistance

Medical assistance with a family doctor is provided for in the Academy Card. The aim is to allow students to be looked after by a doctor who offer the following services:

• the students become his patients, by requesting him as a temporarily family doctor;
• he makes home visits or sees patients at his surgery at reduced rates;
• he carries out scheduled examinations during the school year.

The service, therefore, offers the following advantages:

• to have a doctor always available;
• to have home visits at low rates and free (for scheduled ones), to obtain prescriptions for medicines, analyses and other tests and certificates;
• to have free scheduled examinations;
• to participate in “Health days”, that is a day in which you may have a free check–up carried out.By a team of doctors (a cardiologist, lung doctor, dentist…). On that day a doctor does an initial check-up and, depending on results, may refer the student to a specialist doctor for a more detailed examination.

Medical Education

As for medical education, Residence Luciani organizes several scheduled meetings about health and young people. This year the first meeting will be held in the Torre Maura University Residence.

An online service of medical and psychological counselling is also included in the services offered.
